Have guts to take on IAS, IPS babus? : SC
Peon’s daughter makes it to IAS
New Delhi: The Supreme Court ticked off the Centre for frequently filing appeals challenging issues relating to class IV employees, but not having the ‘guts’ to take on IAS/IPS officers over such issues.
"Why do you come to us frequently against labourers, kalasis and chaprasis. Do you have the guts to take on IAS/IPS officers? You keep on filing petitions against class IV employees but not against IAS/APS officers. That’s because you don’t have the guts," a bench of Justice B S Chauhan and Swatanter Kumat remarked.
The apex court passed the observation while dismissing the Centre’s appeal challenging a Punjab and Haryana High Court direction to appoint Jarnail Singh as a labourer in the Ministry of Defence.
According to Wasim Ahmed Quadri, the Centre’s counsel, though Singh was selected after an interview, he could not be appointed to the post for want of sanction as it was ‘time barred’.

Peon’s daughter makes it to IAS
Chandigarh: Sandeep Kaur, the daughter of a peon from Morinda in Punjab, has made it to the IAS.
Sandeep is the eldest of her three siblings and attributes her success to her father employed in Morinda subtehsil. Citing her father as her immense source of inspiration behind her success, Sandeep, a civil engineer from Panjab Engineering College, had the sole goal of making it to the IAS. "I dedicated myself to preparing for the civil services and failure at earlier attempts made me stronger to prepare for the examinations," she says. Her dream is to work against female foeticide which is a big problem in Punjab.
Meanwhile, in a congratulating message, Chief Minister Prakash singh Badal complimented Sandeep Kaur and her family members, saying she had done the state proud by making it to the IAS despite poor family background.

Teachers go on booze binge in Thane school
Thane: Just imagine teachers going on a drinking binge in the school premises and thereby bringing shame to their profession. This is what happened at a school in Thane, Mumbai.
At least half a dozen teachers including a trustee of Republican school were arrested and offenses registered against them by the police for hosting a liquor party on the school premises.
The fact came to light after MNS activists led by its city chief Sanjay Tupe raided the school premises and caught the teachers red-handed. They were drinking from half filled bottles of a quality IMFL brand on a table and were also eating non-veg food. Teachers tried to protest but since they were caught on camera, they could not deny that they were sozzled. Senior Inspector of Vartak Nagar police station said the teachers had been arrested and offences against them were being filed. Further inquiry is going on.
