MONTH-IN-PERSPECTIVE

JAMMU & KASHMIR: So Farroq Abdullah, the former J&K Chief Minister and former Union Minister is a freeman after his 221 days house-arrest. He had the capacity to disturb the peace of Kashmir, after the abrogation of article 370 by the Indian government. He is past 82 years old, but still there is fire within him. He ruled J&K as an uncrowned king. Now that his political relevance under the changed circumstances is suspect, what will he do! The state has been divided and Kashmir is no more a state, just a union territory. For far too long, over 70 years, the writ of a section of Kashmiris ran in the valley. Everybody knew that the article 370 was forced upon the Constitution makers in particular and India in general. Every government that came to rule at the centre agreed to the wrong, but did nothing to rectify it. It was given to NDA II, to plan and execute the strategy to bring Kashmir back to the federal republic of India, where the national laws applied pari passu. Th

HINDU TERROR: JUDICIAL SILENCE & MEDIA BLINDNESS! Within 48 hours, that is not even two full days after “Banners in Lucknow carry photos of anti – CAA vandals” appeared at major road crossings in Lucknow, Allahabad High Court took suo motu notice of the “Name & Shame” move by the UP government. In fact the court took notice the following day itself, on Saturday night and convened a bench headed by the Chief Justice Govind Mathur. The bench heard the matter on Sunday at 10am, a court holiday, giving a loud message that the court considers the matter serious.  In an oral observation the Allahabad High Court said. “The UP governments move to ‘name & shame’ anti-CAA activists accused of violence by putting up hoardings with their photographs and names is ‘highly unjust’ and an “absolute encroachment of their privacy”. On Monday the court met to direct the state government to get all these ‘name & shame’ hoardings removed immediately. It is another matter that government

BANKRUPTCY OF INDIAN LIBERALS Pawan K. Varma, is a brilliant IFS officer. He was a student of St. Stephens in Delhi. Post retirement, he was taken by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as his advisor, with a cabinet rank. Later, he became Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). An intellectual by his own right, he grew in stature in public space for his candid & fair observation during TV debates. Post CAA-2019 enactment, he fell out with his mentor Nitish Kumar due to his stringent opposition to CAA, which Nitish Kumar & his party JD (U) had accepted as the need of evolving India. Of course, it is not clear, if it was political compulsion, since JD (U) is part of the NDA, or JD (U) and its members, from Nitish Kumar to all else, have appreciated the spirit of CAA. However, Nitish Kumar and his supporters in JD (U) are on board unequivocally with the ruling NDA with respect to CAA 2019 enactment. On March 7, Times of India carried an article in its editorial page “Where Indian L

JAMMU&KASHMIR : Electronic media or the print media are selective and suffer from amnesia, is never in doubt. They have been always selective and conveniently forget or gloss over events that always demanded highlighting issues in service of truth. Why are they peddling, which are truly against the interest of the nation! Some months ago the country had abrogated article 370 of the Indian Constitution following proper procedures. There is enough and more to prove that inclusion of this article 370, into the pages of the most sacred national document has been done to protect and promote a sectarian interest at the cost of national interest. And for all the past 70 years, governments have come and governments have gone, all thought that article 370 has not been fair in the pan-Indian context, but none did anything to correct the anomaly. But this government of NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the unthinkable. Without any noise, they quietly consigned this article 370 i
