Tantrik manages PAN, Passport
Mumbai: The J J Marg police have seized a fake passport, a fake election card and a fake PAN card in the name of Mehdi Hasan, the Bengali tantrik Baba held for multiple rapes, all dating back to 1998 from his Kalyan residence in the metropolitan magistrate’s court in Mazgaon.
Confirming that the 37-year-old had in his possession a fake election card and a fake PAN card bearing the address of his flat at Doodh Naka in Kalyan, sources said, “Following the discovery, the police have charged Hasan with forgery under IPC section 464 (dishonestly or fraudulently executing a document).”
Hasan was arrested for allegedly raping seven women, including four minors and three others for the last five years. Apparently the girls underwent abortion on three occasions, following which one of them gained enough courage to inform her father. “The clinics where the abortions took place are a matter of probe and if these medical centres are found complicit in the crime, they too would be punished under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Cherring Dorje.
Further, the JJ Marg police said the cell phones recovered from his Kalyan house was being probed and refused to divulge details. Hasan’s wife, who lives in West Bengal, can throw more light on his background, they added. Also, the police have rubbished charges that his wife was in Mumbai and was helping him in his deeds.
Students harassed,
school issued show cause!
Mumbai: The high-handed approach of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (OLPS) School in Chembur has incurred the wrath of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The civic body has sent a show cause notice to the school for cancellation of recognition, on grounds that the school had allegedly forced students to sit outside the classroom over alleged non-payment of fees. Corporators cutting across party lines have also strongly demanded that the BMC should cancel its recognition.
About 150 students from the primary section of OLPS school were made to sit outside the principal’s office as their parents had not paid the fees. The incident invoked a sharp reaction from students’ parents, who stormed the school and brought it to the notice of the principal that majority of the students had paid their fees. It was later found that the faux pas happened due to technical errors of the school accounts department. The issue had its echo in the BMC Education Committee meeting.
Expressing their ire over making students pay for the mistakes of the school administration, corporators asked the civic education department to cancel recognition of the OLPS school. Corporator Raja Chougule said, “The school administration had recently revoked the promotion of a headmistress for not issuing a memo to a peon. It also held back her three-months’ salary. The BMC should take strict action against the school.”

Worms in mid-day meal
Mumbai: the Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation’s (BMC) mid-day meal scheme, often criticised for its insipid and bland food, has found itself in yet another controversy. Worms have been found in the khichadi distributed to students of the Deonar Municipal Urdu School, again raising a question mark over the quality of food being served under the scheme.
Education Committee Chairperson Rukmini Kharatmol, who visited the Deonar school, found to her horror that the khichadi contained small worms and was unfit for human consumption. “I was appalled to see that there were worms in the khichadi, which was served to the school kids. This is a serious matter as it is related to the lives of small children.”
According to civic officials, the school – having 1,250 students, is supplied mid-day meal by an organisation Pooja Mahila Mandal.
“I have directed the school authorities to stop distribution of mid-day meals in the Deonar school and also ordered an inquiry, said Kharatmol.
However, Arifa Shaikh, headmistress of Deonar school, vouched for the hygiene of the food provided by the Pooja Mahila Mandal. “I myself taste the food everyday before being distributed to the school students. The meals supplied by Pooja are always tasty and hygienic. It is difficult to understand what went wrong on that day,” she said.
The BMC spends around Rs.3,000 a year per student for the mid-day meal scheme and the civic body has earmarked an overall budget of Rs. 19,000 crore for its schools. The corporation supplies khichadi to 4 lakh students studying in its 1,100 schools.
