EDITOR'S COLUMN

Friends

We are well into summer. But somehow, it has not been very hot. But being May, monsoon may not be too far. Hope the parched land in the interiors of India, especially around Deccan plateau, shall have some earnestly awaited reprive with some good south west monsoon very soon.

Political heat that descended last month on Bangalore has spread all over Karnataka, with election to state assembly slated for 5th May. What shall transpire is anybody’s guess. There is a possibility that incumbency factors can be decisive. Of course at I & C, its always wishing good for the best man out there.

Month-in-Perspective, subject to space constraints, tried to look at different happenings during the month, across India. The physical attack of a 5 year old girl child in Delhi, again exposed the vulnerability of children and barbaric instincts of sexually depraved men including teenage boys. Police once again proved, how badly law breakers they are. Aam Aadmi Party for the first time exposed the multiple standards of law enforcing agency of the capital. It was indeed a day of national shame.

The sentence of Sanjay Dutt, the film actor, for his actions, of commission and omission, during the 1993, Mumbai blast strangely divided the public discourse on the issue of clemency. It was, prima facie, an open and shut case, but for the PCI Chairman, Marknadeya Katju, a former Supreme Court judge himself. As usual he poked his nose, where there was no space at all. We have tried to discuss the issue for its irrelevance, when a relevant movement by Arvind Kejriwal, for public good, media failed to provide space. But this has been so, many a time with media managers-barking up the wrong tree.

Hope our readers shall find our exercise worth their time. Rest of the issues are as usual. Do revert with your inputs. We value them.
