EDITOR'S COLUMN

Friends

We are into the first month of monsoon season. By the time this issue is in your hands, may be rain god is already ‘smiling aloud’. Of course there have been sporadic bursts in some places and temperature did come down in some parts but there are parts witnessing very hot climate. Deaths have been reported in Andhra Pradesh and some other parts of the country. Hope rain comes all over the place to announce the arrival of monsoon loud and clear.

Month-in-Perspective, as usual has covered quite a few happenings of the month. India is a place of myriad happenings of many kinds. We have covered some. Election to Karnataka Assembly attracted huge interest all over the country. The first BJP government in the south was embroiled in completely avoidable controversy  from beginning itself. Started with literally  buying MLAs to reach the midway mark followed by Lokayukata indicting Reddy brothers besides Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and his family, KJP formation to fix BJP and  non-stop crisis of leadership, all contributed to the fall of the BJP government in Bangalore. The election result was on expected lines. Although Congress was pleasantly surprised at the windfall. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had come in for a lot of critical examination for both what he performed and what he failed to perform, in media as well as from opposition parties. His involvement in the allocation of coal leases, while he was handling the Ministry of coal, where allegedly no set rules were applied in granting mining rights, came in for harsh criticism. CAG had reported in its audit reports about the huge loss to the national exchequer. There was this comment in The Hindu-Business line, as 'Overheard in Delhi', which was stark, pointed and serious. We have  reproduced the same for whatever it is worth.

As usual CBI has come in for lot of criticism for its selective action or inaction. Supreme Court was particularly harsh in commenting CBI as a caged parrot mouthing 'his master’s voice'. We have tried to retrace some of the happenings of the past to agree with what Supreme Court has, so unkindly certified the CBI as. Hope readers would find it interesting and worth their time.  Do revert with your inputs. We do value them.
