MONTH-IN-PERSPECTIVE NOVEMBER 2020

NEW DELHI: Clearly Insolvency & Bankruptcy Code (IBC) is one of the very important legislation by free India, meant to protect the public sector banks. No other legislation has been as effective as IBC in bringing to book, the defaulting borrowers, who have been playing with these public sector banks. Dewan Housing Finance Ltd or DHFL is a company that owes over Rs. 40000 crores to different financing banks. The failure to repay the outstanding loans has landed Wadhawan brothers, Kapil and Dhiraj in Taloja jail under judicial custody. Various bidders have shown interest, to buy the assets of DHFL but is short of total amount due to these banks and other creditors. Smarting under imprisonment, Kapil Wadhawan appears to be coming round to settle the outstanding. BHARAT RATNA LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI- SEVAK TO PRADHAN SEVAK- A LIFE OF HONESTY & SIMPLICITY In one of his abrasive and arrogant moment Rajdeep Sardesai, of the then CNN/IBN television channel took upon himself the role of selecting the ‘Greatest Indian After Mahatma’. In a TRP driven world of television, this exercise was thought to be a kind of game changer for the channel. After all most journalists, especially in India, think ‘what we think today, India will think tomorrow’. Rajdeep Sardesai was no different. So he goes about listing 100 Indians of some name and fame. Then he only selects a panel of ‘eminent’ juries to prune the list to 50. The panel consisted of some 20 ‘intellectuals’, of which 14 of them were journous and writers, most of whom had their own intellectual baggage. The panel prunes the list to 50, after including few more names, which they felt Rajdeep Sardesai should have included in the first place. The pruned list was further filtered to make it a “List of 10...

US Presidential Election 2020 United States of America, referred to as a Super Power in a Multi-Polar world, is world’s most powerful nation. It has enough and more to its credit to be called a Super Power, whether the size of the economy in monetary terms or the size of its arsenal, there isn’t any country to match it. Former USSR was the only competitor, more due to its stock-pile of arms and ammunitions, which the present day Russia is not comparable. The 21st century leadership of China is trying hard to displace USA or US as generally referred to, as the only Super Power, but so far couldn’t succeed in realizing this dream. Unlike US, the Peoples Republic of China is a centrally controlled polity with communist ideology hence has largely restricted personal freedom to its citizens. US is an open society with a democratic way of life with abundant freedom to its citizens. With its economic and military might, world looks at it with a degree of respect, reserved only for the US. Tha...

NEW DELHI :Minister of Home Affairs, Government of India, Amit Shah has been in the news, since some months, getting in and out of hospital at irregular intervals. Reportedly despite having been recently recovered from Covid-19, he has just been admitted to AIIMS for a complete medical check-up. There need not be much to make out from this routine news. He became news because he is the high profile minister of a high profile ministry. And AIIMS stands for All India Institute of Medical Sciences. We all know that AIIMS in Delhi is an institute of higher medical learning in Post Graduate studies with students and cream of medical professionals being the teachers and guides to these students. It’s a premier institute with large in-house hospital facilities. This news appeared in the first page of Times of India (14/09/2020). There was also another report on a high profile politician, in the same news paper on the same day. But strangely, the news was published in the 6th page, which said ...

New Delhi: So, Prashant Bhushan shall not apologise, not seeking mercy and wants to go down as another Mahatma Gandhi! But Mr. Bhushan, there was only one Mahatma Gandhi, there cannot be another by merely quoting Mahatma from the court records in Champaran. Your personal integrity is not called to question. The fact is you have made serious and frivolous charges on Supreme Court judges. You had also stated as far back as 2009 that half of the 16 former Supreme Court judges are corrupt, in an interview with the alleged sex maniac Tarun Tejpal, an embodiment of corruption himself. Tarun Tejpal is still under trial for the alleged molestation, in an elevator in Goa, of one of his young intern working for his paper TEHELKA. Then recently you lampooned Chief Justice Bobde, for his ‘ride’ on an expensive motorcycle, without helmet. In truth, Justice Bobde was only posing for a photograph and enjoying the sitting on such a bike with a powerful engine. To make it an issue especially because he...
