CRAZY TEACHERS

9-year-old loses teeth for laughing in class
Bangalore: A class IV student of Baldwin’s Boys School was left with broken teeth reportedly for laughing in class.
Mohammed Irfan, father of nine-year-old Mohammed Aymen, said the class teacher hit the boy with a wooden duster. "His class teacher Irene Shaw hit his mouth with a wooden duster just for laughing in the class," he said. "Two of his front teeth were broken and gums were damaged."
Irfan, who is an engineer, said he was shocked to realise that the teacher took it lightly and failed to provide him any treatment. "The incident happened at 9.30 am and the teacher informed my wife at 10.30 am," he said, adding that his wife was asked to visit the school at 2.30 pm. "Till she visited the school, my son was not even taken to the hospital and the principal was also not informed about it," said Irfan.
He said initially the teacher tried to put the blame on the Aymen and said he needed counseling as he keeps laughing in the class.
"When my wife saw my son, she realised that he was hurt," he said. "The teacher later said she was ready to bear the expenses of the treatment."
He said he took the matter to the principal who was unaware of the episode and said he would bring the matter before the board.
"As soon as we were informed about this incident, we suspended Irene Shaw," said Dinakar, principal of the school. "The case is now subjected to enquiry."
Irfan said he took Aymen to a dental clinic where they were told that the teeth were fractured and needed immediate root canal treatment as the root pulps were exposed. Following this, he registered a case against the teacher at Ashoknagar police station. Shaw is apparently not new to the family. Irfan said she tutored the boy at their home in Shantinagar.
"She charged Rs. 300 per hour for the classes at home. How can she be so rude to my son?" he said.

‘Teachers used students for research on nudity’
Ahmedabad: The prestigious National Institute of Design (NID) here is in the eye of a storm after an alumni has alleged experiments with nudity on students to enhance creativity by a senior faculty member as part of an ongoing research. The NID registrar Dr Vijaya Deshmukh confirmed that an inquiry committee has been set up to look into the matter.
The allegations have been carried in an e-mail attributed to Saurabh Kumar, who had passed out from the institute in December 2009. The e-mail accused that a senior faculty member had carried out these experiments with his batch (2007-2009), forcing students to undress before each other though segregating the males and females to do so separately.
According to the NID registrar, the faculty in question has denied the accusation orally and has been asked to put down his answer in writing. Preliminary inquires have failed to log any confirmation though efforts are afoot to reach out to students of the batch in question, she added.
The e-mail states that such activities were part of his research that sought to make out that undressing in public lead to instant creativity. However, no prior consent was taken from students nor were they aware that they were subjects of his personal experiments.
"We were made to sign non-disclosure agreement (NDA). No part of the research was shown to us neither was the source revealed. Request for transparency and in the knowledge of the Institute were shunned. The students were made to undress infront of each other. The female students collectively undressed in the girls hostel and the male students in the boys hostel. This was meant to lead to the next stage of getting creative where the female and the male students were supposed to undress together. He also encouraged the openness to allow students of the opposite gender to touch and explore each other’s nude body without any hesitation. On finding the last activity absolutely unagreeable, some of the students protested and walked out of the class", the e-mail stated while demanding an investigation into the entire affair.
According to the registrar, the institute had received the e-mail about a month back and though an enquiry is on, prima facie there is no evidence so far. "We are checking with the girls as well but so far there has been no confirmation of it", she said.
