FUNNY WORLD
Strange are the ways of the world
Print media from Wisconsin, U.S. informed of a shipwreck found preserved in Lake Michigan, sunk in October 1898. For different reasons it remained at the bottom of the lake. Around 1990 at the government initiative search for the missing L R Doty was started. After 20 years of research Mr Brendon Baillod, the current president of Wisconsin under water Archeology Association reportedly found the 300 feet L R Doty which sunk in storm on Lake Michigan some 112 years ago. To the pleasant surprise of the diving team, reportedly it found the ship upright and intact. Believe it or not even the corn, being the cargo of the ship reportedly was found still in its hold. Lake Michigan is a fresh water lake, hence had no salt in it to cause corrosion to the body of the ship. According to the report, due to water in the lake is clod and non-salty the Doty was well preserved. Even the storm did not affect the ship since it was far below the surface. As of now, strangely, there are no plans to raise the ship from the bottom of the lake. Report informs the L R Doty shall remain preserved under water indefinitely where it is. For 20 years, millions of $ of public money was spent on the project to have the last word on the sunken ship. But when found, the very same public who funded it through the exchequer, were denied the glimpse of a piece of history lost in the womb of huge Lake over a century ago. The obsteneible logic was if exposed to air it could cause it to rot away within few years. It may be partly false, since there are technological avenues in the U.S. to preserve it in public domain. Public has a right to enrich their knowledge of history of such an event. It could as well become a best Museum Piece in furthering the frontiers of human understanding of various scientific issued involved. The logic of leaving it under water is seriously flawed and hence deserves reconsideration in the larger interest of furthering human knowledge in general and U.S. in particular.
