A Memorial to the IDEA OF INDIA
To remember him, and to remind the nation that there existed one like ASI Tukaram Ombale, and to make him part of, not just the oral history but to make the life story of this exemplary Indian, into the page of history book of our motherland, not merely for the information of posterity but for it to live in the heart of every young child, as an inspirational beacon of light.
As a memorial, to the everlasting memory of the soul, it is planned to erect a life size statue at an appropriate place in Belgaum, a place perennially politicized by both Karantaka and Maharashtra. This memorial is intended to promote friendship and brotherhood among we Indians from Maharashtra and Karnataka, and as a model for co-operative co-existence in an India divided on linguistic subterfuge. In an India which yearns to be a super power but languishing at 134 in the UNDP ranking of Human Development Index, stuck in the low development module.
Assistant Sub Inspector Tukaram Ombale is probably the finest thing that has happened to contemporary India. Born poor, placed poorly, by the system, that passes for governance, but when occasion came by, ASI Tukaram Ombale rose like a meteor, unmatched in 61 years before him, not likely to be matched by any of his senior most colleagues. In the line of duty there is nothing that can even remotely match his supreme sacrifice not by accident, but by embracing it with full knowledge that there was no other option, if the terrorist with AK 47 had to be caught alive. In the event all bullets from the AK 47 were pumped into his bare abdomen, and the lone Pakistani terrorist was caught alive to be presented to the wide world, the only proof, that Pakistan continued to evade but could not. Could India ever have a case if this terrorist was not caught by our hero Tukaram Ombale !? !
