HARYANA: Haryana is going to dogs with law and order machinery looking the other way to the increasing attacks on vulnerable women at different places. And comes the news of a minister, one Shiv Charan Sharma, calling Geetika Sharma a ‘Servant’ of his former jailed colleague Gopal Kanda, and this is not a ‘big case’. All media informed public are privy to the fact that Geetika Sharma, who worked for the MLDR airline owned by Handa, committed suicide some months ago due to the physical assault and torture by Handa. Handa is the prime accused in the case. Celebrating the jailed bird Kanda’s birthday in Sirsa, this Shiv Charan Sharma, the Haryana minister, had reportedly stated that “This isn’t  such a big case. Handa appointed Geetika as a servant by mistake”. U.K moving towards true Secularism London: Britain is undergoing a post-religion era with most of its citizens not following any religion, according to a new survey, reports PTI.  The poll, conducted by YouGov last month with a sample of 1,500 across the British population, including recent immigrants, found almost half (46 per cent) have no religion, up from 42 per cent in February 2015 and from 37 per cent in January 2013.   The figure rises to more than 50 per cent among white British, The Sunday Times reported. The increase in agnosticism is most pronounced among those aged under 40.  “There has been a revolutionary generational change in our religious identity from the norm being Christian to the norm being ‘no religion’,” said Linda Woodhead, professor in the sociology of religion at Lancaster University, who will officially unveil the figures at the British Academy lecture. UP Population Control Bill For us at ISSUES & CONCERNS (I&C), issue of exploding population, especially of India, has been very close to our heart. When I&C got launched in November 2000, the first issue on the cover was POPULATION, for the universal relevance of the issue even then. In successive editions during the last 20 years, I&C has tried to highlight the issue of uncontrolled growth in numbers. Despite argument in favour of the so-called Demographic Dividend, we persisted in highlighting the vagaries of this problem of all problems. It’s been a kind of saga for us at I&C. 11th July 2021, the World Population Day came and went into national amnesia as usual.
