Forced to cremate dead body in front of house

Morena (Madhya Pradesh): A Dalit man in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district cremated the body of his wife in front of his house, claiming he was not allowed to use the cremation ground by upper caste people. The man, identified as Bablu, claimed the cremation ground has been encroached upon by “upper caste” people. However, the local administration says the land was illegally occupied by the Dalits.
The incident happened in Garhi village of Morena’s Ambah town. When Bablu arrived at the cremation ground with his wife Pooja’s body, he was told he cannot cremate the body as the land belongs to the so-called upper caste people.
Dalit villagers said they all face the same problem as the “upper castes” have started farming on the land meant for cremation.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate (revenue) D.C. Sandhi  told that there was a cremation ground for Dalits in the village, but it was being illegally occupied by a few people of the same community. He denied that Bablu was stopped from using the cremation ground. Sandhi said Bablu has been awarded financial assistance of Rs 10,000, and the authorities have begun the process to remove the encroachment from the cremation land.

Eid came and gone but garbage remained

Mumbai: While Bakri Eid was celebrated, the purchasers and traders left behind a lot of things than the usual litter at the bloody slaughterhouse in Deonar. Post Bakri  Eid, heaps of garbage some 7500 metric tonnes and parts of slaughtered animals were left untouched at the Deonar abattoir for a long time.
The traders of goats and water buffaloes have littered the entire slaughterhouse with tons of animal waste and garbage. Like every year, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, who is in-charge of the Asia’s largest abattoir, is bound to clear the litter before the decaying of the animal waste, however, the condition of the slaughterhouse has deteriorated since the civic garbage vans have failed to process the entire garbage which resulted in piling up of more waste at the slaughterhouse.

Family forced out of bus with the dead

Madhya Pradesh: A man, along with his five-day-old baby and elderly mother-in-law, was allegedly forced to get off a bus on which his wife died in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, an allegation refuted by the bus staff.
After getting off, they had to wait for an hour before getting assistance.
The incident happened at Chainpura Parsai village.
Ram Singh Lodhi, from Goghri village in Chhatarpur district, was taking his wife Malli Bai (35), who had delivered a baby five days back, to Damoh district hospital for treatment. But her condition worsened and she died on the way.
Sources said when bus conductor Sharda Prasad, driver Amar Lal and helper Dharmendra came to know about the death, they stopped the bus near Chainpur Parsai in Narsinghgarh around 5.30 pm and told Ram Singh to get off the bus with his wife’s body.
Repeated pleas by Ram Singh and his mother-in-law went in vain and they were forced to deboard the bus.
After nearly an hour’s wait, two advocates Mritunjay Hazari and Rajesh Patel, who were returning to their homes in Damoh, stopped and heard Ram Singh’s story. The advocates called 100, but did not get any response, following which they arranged a private vehicle to take them to Chhatarpur.
However, the bus staff claimed that Ram Singh had got off the bus willingly and they did not force him.
The two advocates complained about the incident to the state human rights commission, DGP and regional transport officer.
Damoh superintendent of police Tilak Singh said a case under sections 304, 336 of IPC has been lodged against the driver and the bus conductor. “Both of them have been arrested. The bus has also been seized. A police team was sent to village Goghri and the statement of Ram Singh Lodhi was recorded,” he said.

Bahraich (UP): In a shocking incident, a 10-month-old baby died in a UP government hospital here allegedly after he was not given timely treatment by the staff as his parents could not pay the bribe demanded by them, triggering an outrage that prompted Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to remove the Chief Medical Superintendent.
The infant’s father, Shivdutt, a daily wage earner, alleged that Krishna died because the hospital staff delayed administering a crucial injection to him and wasted time demanding a bribe for providing treatment. The victim’s family also alleged that the infant was given ‘a wrong injection’ by the nurse leading to his death on the morning of August 9 in the Bahraich district hospital, 130 km from Lucknow.
Taking serious note of the incident, the Chief Minister issued an order removing the CMS, an official spokesman said in Lucknow. Akhilesh said that the government was committed to providing better medical facilities to the people and warned that stern action will be taken against insensitive doctors who ignore patients.
Taking Suo Motu cognizance of the incident, the National Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the UP government acting on the basis of media reports.

Timely treatment in this case, could have saved a precious human life, NHRC said, adding that the incident raises serious issue of violation of right to life of poor patients, who cannot afford expensive treatment at private hospitals.
As the incident came to light, the state government swung into damage-control mode with Minister of State for Health SP Yadav directing the district magistrate to conduct an inquiry and send him the report within 24 hours.
Issuing the notice, the NHRC also observed that the incident raises serious issue of violation of right to life of poor patients, who approach the government hospitals for treatment.
