RTE & teachers suicide attempt
Solapur (Maharashtra): Four women teachers who lost their jobs after the closure of a local Urdu school, tried to immolate themselves here, in a bid to draw the Maharashtra government’s attention to their unemployment.
The women poured kerosene on themselves at the District Collector office here soon after the flag hoisting ceremony began to mark the 50 years of formation of the state, but the bid was foiled by the police, which immediately took them into custody.
In a statement given to the police, Raisa Begum Patel, Saieda Begum Dawoodsaab, Mehboobbi Wahab Sheikh and Rashida Maniyar accused the district administration and the government of "apathy" and demanded rehabilitation or fresh jobs.
According to the teachers, they lost their jobs when a Urdu primary school in Summaiya Nagar was closed down almost a decade ago.
"Since then, we have contracted all the concern officers and ministers in the education department but no one helped us sort out the problem. Hence, we had to take this drastic step for justice," Rasia Patel said.
Guardian minister Laxman Dhobale, who was present there asked the officials concerned to look into their grievances.

When victim turns hostile can victim be rebooked?
Mumbai: The Sewri Fast Track Court acquitted an auto rickshaw driver, accused of raping a bar singer, as the victim turned hostile and failed to identify him in the court.
It was a case under the jurisdiction of MIDC Police, the victim Sita (name changed) was leaving for home at midnight from Mela Bar Hotel in Dahisar where she works as a singer. She boarded the rickshaw of the accused Pramod Shukla (23) and guided him to her residence at Andheri.
However, instead of taking her home, Shukla deviated from the right route and took the victim to a desolate spot in the Jogeshwari Link Road and raped her. Shukla also snatched her mobile phone and told her that he would return it only after dropping her back home.
Incidentally, Sita bumped into some policemen who were patrolling the road and cried for help. The cops immediately rescued her and also informed their counterparts at the MIDC. The officials connected with that situation arrested Shukla and booked him under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC.
During the trial, prosecution examined seven witnesses, including two policemen who rescued Sita. The court also examined medical experts who supported the prosecution’s case.
However, when the prosecutor examined Sita in court she said she couldn’t identify Shukla as she had not seen in the dark. She was subsequently declared hostile.
His lawyer Sandeep Singh argued in the court that Shukla was falsely implicated in the case.
Further, Singh defended saying that since Sita herself is declared hostile, the prosecution’s theory has completely failed. Accepting Singh’s argument, the court allowed shukla to walk free.

Warehouse for liquor but none for wheat

New Delhi: The Central Government’s Food Corporation of India (FCI) starts procurement of the bumper crop of wheat, with its officials privately admitting that it would be better not to buy than to keep piling mounds for rotting as they have no godowns for storage.
Despite hiring private godowns to meet the shortage of own FCI storage facilities, the officials lament that wheat procured under the minimum support price (MSP) policy as back as three years is still lying in open, covered with tarpaulin sheets to protect from rains.
Procurement is meant to feed the poor and those not able to afford the open market prices and hence depending on the public distribution system (PDS). But the only beneficiaries turn out to be rats who thrive on the stocks lying in the open.
Officials admit that this is the scenario not only in Punjab and Haryana that provide maximum wheat to the country but also in other states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan where the stocks lying in the open are chemically treated at regular intervals to keep them good for human consumption.
A report says thousands of wheat bags are lying in open right outside the FCI’s Gandhinagar depot in Jaipur while crates of liquors are stored in the sheds that were erected for the wheat storage.
The FCI official find themselves in a quandary as the sheds had been rented out to the Rajasthan Government’s company, Rajasthan, Breweries Limited in 2007 when their capacity was felt in excess of the requirement to store wheat.
The authorities also do not know where to store the imported wheat arriving every day at the Kanakapura railway station.
Three lakh tonnes of wheat has already arrived. FCI expects that two lakh tonnes more will be reaching the state, with no godowns available to store them.
